Summary:The Urgent Care Veterinarian will be responsible for
providing timely and comprehensive medical care to patients,
including conducting physical examinations, interpreting diagnostic
tests, and administering necessary treatments. They will maintain
accurate records of all services rendered and ensure clear
communication with clients or referring veterinarians regarding
patient status and treatment plans. Additionally, the Urgent Care
Veterinarian will actively participate in promoting the practice,
and contribute to the educational development of interns and
externs.The Urgent Care Veterinarian will provide leadership, and
day to day coaching to CVTs and Assistants within the Urgent Care
service. The Urgent Care Veterinarian will help lead the team in
delivering an exceptional level of care to patients and pet-parents
while maintaining a positive work environment. The position
requires attention to detail, strong communication skills, the
ability to triage medical situations, to delegate tasks and
directions to others, and to take delegation and direction from
others. Based at our original hospital location at VRCCO West, the
Urgent Care Veterinarian will work in collaboration with all
services offered at VRCCO East to offer quality, and convenient
care for pet parents and patient guests. Essential
Functions:LEADERSHIPCollaborate with veterinarian peers and staff
to create a great working environment where the needs of the
pet-parents, patient guest, support staff, and doctors are met and
our core values are lived. Provides guidance, day-to-day coaching
and direction for team of Technicians and Assistants in the Urgent
Care service.Use and improve workflow processes for positive
patient outcomes, pet-parent experience, and staff
effectiveness.The incumbent will help shape our hospital culture;
leading by example in day-to-day actions and conversations that
fosters VRCCO's Core Values. Actively engages the team in
collective problem-solving.Facilitates clear and consistent
communication with all team members and clients.Participates in
regular employee meetings and reviews for the UC service with the
assistance of the Chief of Emergency and Chief of Urgent Care, and
Human Resource Director.Annual and quarterly goal setting for self
and direct reports. Consistent and regular progress check-ins with
Medical Director, and Chief of Emergency.Maintain accountability
for self and team of goal completion. Function as a resource to the
team to remove roadblocks for goal completion. OPERATIONSTake and
record patient historiesPerform physical examinationsProvide,
perform, and/or interpret laboratory, radiographic and other tests
and dataProvide therapeutic measures necessary for the medical
and/or surgical treatment of patients; maintain appropriate records
regarding all services rendered by youTimely and fully informing
clients (or referring veterinarian(s) if applicable), of the status
of their patient(s) and ensuring that timely informed consent for
all treatment is obtainedPromote the practice and marketing of our
servicesReceive and manage cases for all departments as
requestedParticipate in rounds and intern/extern/ resident
educationConduct in-house continuing educationInduce and intubate
and monitor for anesthetic proceduresInduce and monitor for
sedation proceduresAdministration and application of drugs, fluids,
medications and immunological agents by oral, parenteral and
injectable routes.Utilization of computer and software systems to
enter and maintain medical record keeping.Assist with training for
all new heroes and ensures all UC trainers and mentors are
providing accurate training and regular feedback.Keep team updated
and in conformance with all VRCCO Safety Policies as well as the
Standard Operating Protocols specific to the Urgent Care
department.Maintain proper documentation of all interactions as
necessary and required by VRCCO policy and procedure.Help maintain
and promote a clean and professional environment in the hospital
area.Attend CE, as required by the organization, that will help
improve your technical and medical skills and knowledge, along with
management/ leadership skills.Other duties as assigned.Education &
Experience:Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), or equivalent
degree obtained from an accredited university or college. Licensed
or eligible for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in the
state of Oregon.Prior experience in emergency medicine, urgent
care, or high volume general practice preferred.Strong diagnostic
and problem-solving skills.Preferred: experience working in
coordination with a multi- specialty and emergency veterinary
hospital.Knowledge, skills, and abilities and/or
competencies:Functional and reliable in stressful
situations.Medical math - calculating basic formulas for weight
conversions and medication dose conversions.Knowledge of feline and
canine anatomy.Apply common sense understanding to deliver
instructions, deal with problems with concrete variables and draw
appropriate/accurate conclusions.People leadership.Excellent
communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to work effectively
in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.Commitment to
providing compassionate care to patients and their

demands:Lift and carry approximately 40 lbs.Team lift and carry
approximately 150 lbs.Sit, stand, stoop, bend and walk
intermittently during the day on hard floor surfaces.Manual
dexterity sufficient to accurately work with small, delicate pieces
of equipment or large heavy objects/containers/machinery.Wear all
protective gear including mask, gloves, gown, hairnet, safety
goggles etc.Work for long periods of time with arms extended.Work
within an environment that has high levels of animal sounds, bodily
fluids that need disposal, and open wound management.The above
